ABOUT US

Accumulo Consulting has been running a Lawn Bowls tournament for 7 years now. This is one of the biggest tournaments in South Africa today. We are always looking for ways to give back to the community and find ways to help those less fortunate than ourselves. The tournament is held in partnership with our cancer beneficiaries, The PinkDrive, we are able to help raise awareness and money for a deserving cause.

OUR HISTORY

2015 Events

We were very fortunate to have the Commonwealth Bowls Gold medal winners open the fourth edition of the Accumulo Bowls Challenge. The format of the tournament was a repeat of last year with the teams being seeded and allocated to six sections of four teams. On the Friday each section participated in a round robin tournament basis. Based on the teams position it progressed to one of the Cup, Plate, Bowl or Shield Competitions. Each competition took place on the Saturday and Sunday with each team playing one another finally resulting in the winners. Total prize money this year was R175 000, with the winner of the Accumulo Bowls Challenge Cup Competition receiving R70 000!

The themes of the tournament were

–  Friday 21 August Accumulo green day

–  Saturday 22 August More Balls Than Most blue day

–  Sunday 23 August Pink Drive pink day

All staff and bowlers wore the different coloured shirts on the respective days.

Our client base joined our fund raising initiative and with their support we raised a total of R568 210 for our cancer beneficiaries. That is R268 000 more than last year! So a huge thank you to everyone for their contributions, no matter how big or small, every donation helped. The Pink Drive, which is associated with breast cancer, while More Balls Than most with testicular and prostate cancer, will use this money to create awareness and to deliver a service to the rural community where alternatives are not available. Your donations will help save lives.

We would like to give a special Thank you to the Pink Drive who has told us they will be putting our company logo on the back of their mobile breast examination trucks, which is a huge honour for Accumulo Consulting!

In addition we raised money for the Bedfordview Country Club Bowls Section and so would like to thank all our clients, staff and outsiders who made contributions to the sporting and financial success of the Accumulo Bowls Challenge. Allan from Chai FM acted as Master of Ceremonies at the prize giving and we thank him for his comedy and bubble personality performance.

2013 Events

The Tournament was formally opened by May Homer who had recently represented South Africa at the World Bowls Championship for partially sighted bowlers and returned with two gold medals.

A new format was introduced for this year’s event with all 24 sides being seeded and drawn into six sections of four teams each. Each team consisted of five players and each player had to play a minimum of 25 ends over the duration of the tournament in order that the side was not penalised by 20 points.

Each day had a specific colour theme and all players, officials, club and Accumulo staff wore sponsored shirts in terms of the colour scheme. In addition the jacks were also coloured for each day.

On Friday 30 August 2013 all participants wore Accumulo green shirts and each team played one another in its section for three rounds of games. This filtered the teams into four separate competitions, Cup, Plate, Bowl and Shield, with separate trophies and prize money, with these  played on the Saturday and Sunday. Friday was concluded with live entertainment and a personalised burger evening.

In parallel with the Accumulo Bowls Challenge we ran the second Accumulo Cancer Challenge and this year’s beneficiary charities were PinkDrive (identified with breast cancer) and More Balls Than Most (identified with prostate and testicular cancer). Part of our social awareness programme was to raise awareness of cancer, in particular breast, prostrate and testicular cancer and to raise as much funds as we could for this cause.

Accordingly on Saturday 31 August 2013 all participants wore blue sponsored shirts identifying with male cancers. The separate competitions, Cup, Plate, Bowl and Shield all started with each competition having six competing teams and three rounds of games took place on Saturday. Live entertainment and food was provided for all in the evening.

On Sunday 1 September 2013 the day started bright and early with a Spring Day Breakfast, all bowlers, staff and family being invited. The final two rounds of the four competitions took place and all participants wore sponsored pink shirts representing female cancers. At the conclusion of play we had four completed leagues, and after all enjoying a superb full lunch prepared and served by the Accumulo staff the prize giving was held. R100 000 in prize money and five trophies were awarded to the various winners.

Accumulo Consulting are proud to have raised the sum of R210 210 for cancer and a cheque for this amount was handed over to PinkDrive / More Balls Than Most.

As with all previous tournaments we received remarkable sponsorship support from our clients, suppliers and staff and we thank them all for their generosity. Taking all funds raised and the value of sponsorship and prize money the Accumulo Bowls Challenge is now a R500 000 event.

2012 Achievements

We received tremendous sponsorship support from our clients and suppliers. Some sponsored cash to help with the costs of hosting the event, while others sponsored spot prizes or food items.

Others made donations to the CANSA Challenge included in the amount mentioned above.

The tournament was attended by 100 club players from the East Rand region. They formed 24 teams and competed over five rounds in the two days.

There were cash prizes for the top four teams: a first prize of R16 000.00, second of R8 000.00, while third, fourth and fifth prizes amounted to R5 000.00, R3 000.00 and R1 000.00 respectively.

The Accumulo CANSA Challenge added extra spice to the weekend. At the end of each round of the tournament a corner to corner competition took place with a bottle of Johnny Walker Black Label being awarded to the winner.

Teams enjoyed wholesome lunches and refreshments between each round, while discussing strategy and sizing up their next opponents. Our own staff prepared the lunches in the club’s kitchens.

We’d like to say a heartfelt thanks to all the people involved in organising this year’s tournament. The following deserve special mention for their efforts:

  • Bedfordview Bowls Club for allowing us to host this event
  • The teams and players for playing so fairly
  • The sponsors and donors for giving so generously
  • Cooks and kitchen crew who made such yummy food
  • Staff of Accumulo Consulting for all their efforts
  • Other Accumulo staff who gave their time to either assist on the day or help with preparations beforehand
  • The Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA)

2011 Events

One of our company highlights this year was the opportunity to sponsor a Corporate day bowls tournament. The tournament was held on the 13 and 14th of August 2011 at the Bedfordview Bowls Club

The tournament was very well received and all the competitors had fun.

We had a wonderful time presenting this tournament and spending time with everyone involved and look forward to future events such as these.
